In early November I took part in the New Authors Talent Event at Chelmsford Library. It was a chance to do a three-minute 'writer's slam' talking about your book, the story and what made you want to write a book. I spoke about my long term illness, being in isolation for an extended period of time after treatment and how I wrote my children's book to achieve a goal that I'd always wanted.I spoke about how the children in the book faced adversity from the enemies around them, and how the magical animals with super talents enable them to work together to make sure that peace reigns in different worlds.

Ingenious Creatures and the Secrets of Stumpery Hollow
My first book Ingenious Creatures and the Secrets of Stumpery Hollow follows the journey of two nature-loving children who, through sharing the same interests, become best friends. However one has a secret that will send them on an adventure that quickly spirals out of control.The book introduces young readers to a wild range of exciting characters ranging from an invisible brown bear to a badger with the ability to shoot ice from his back. The characters display a multitude of backgrounds with the intent to encourage learning as well as entertainment for children.The book has been released now and is available as paperback on Amazon via the link below.

This is a great, harmless tale that exudes amazing amounts of imagination and character creation fitting for any BBC mini series. It's set in a location close to my heart and it was lovely to see so many iconic areas represented in it. The main characters have a great chemistry, with plenty of funny banter, and the conflicts they get caught up in are relatively intriguing and mixed with enough realism to make them quite believable. It's honestly an adorable story that would be great for parents to read to their children at night, with pretty pictures and great imagery. Just reading the animals voices out loud was fun! I bought this book after I met the author and promised I would read it. It is a good story (I don't want to give too much away here) for both older children and adults to read who enjoy fantasy novels such as Narnia etc. But this book takes fantasy elements into a realistic setting. I liked the idea of the animal characters each having a special power. I hope that Becky will write another book soon as she ended this one on a cliffhanger! – Gumblejackgirl

Being transported to the world of the Stumpery has been a surprise and joy, the world of talking animals and hidden magic. Ingenious Creatures is a real page turner. It kept me engrossed, regardless of the fact that this is a book for 9-12 year olds, I was happy to be a part of that age group and become pulled into the story of Ned and Romana, two entirely different characters with the same interests, becoming part of an ingenious world, cleverly written, engaging I am hoping book no. 2 will be out soon. Although it's for kids, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and know my son will too. Becky has a great imagination that has really brought the characters to life.
